According to Caroma, a green toilet manufacturer, each person in your household flushes the toilet four times a day, resulting in toilet water usage of about 20 gallons. If you have a family of four, that is 80 gallons of water a day used just to flush the toilet. Also, the above stats are only for toilets that were installed after the National Energy Policy Act went into effect in 1994. If your toilets are older than that, then they can account for up to 40% of your household water use.
